The Cremation of Sam McGee by Robert Service

Robert Service was one of America's most popular poets in the early years of the 20th century.  He made a name for himself when gold was discovered in the Klondike region of the Yukon in 1897. One of his most famous ballads was "The Cremation of Sam McGee." Below is a reading of the ballad by Johnny Cash.

What Killed Curiosity?

I came across the following 11/14/2014 Wall Street Journal article about John Cleese where he mentions his concerns about the general lack of natural curiosity among young people. It is very poignant and something I have noticed as a teacher for several years:

Modern Day Miracle ?

I came across this story recently on the Internet about a woman in Annapolis, Maryland who had been given only months to live because of an incurable case of esophageal cancer. Mary Ellen Heibel underwent several rounds of chemotherapy at Johns Hopkins University, but the doctor who administered the treatment said that it had stalled her death, but was not a cure.

After learning from the doctors that there was nothing else that could be done, Ms. Heibel turned to her Catholic faith and prayed to Father Francis Seelos, a well-known priest on the Eastern Seaboard who died in 1867. Not long after beginning her prayers and asking others to pray to Father Seelos in her behalf, Mary's terminal condition began to improve. On a routine visit to the doctor, X-rays indicated that her cancer was no longer there. Below is a short news clip with Mary. What are your thoughts on this story?

Is There Light at the End of the Tunnel?

-->In EMBRACED BY THE LIGHT, Betty J. Eadie wrote of her near death experience, or NDE, after going through the “white light” while in the hospital for a common surgical procedure in November of 1973.

Near-death experiences, or NDEs, have gained attention in recent years because more people are willing to talk about them. The following video excerpt includes short interviews and comments from people who have claimed to have died and returned to tell about it. Do you know of anyone who has experienced anything like that? Please feel free to comment.

Soul Survivor

SOUL SURVIVOR is the clever title of a book recently authored by the parents of a boy who began presenting evidence at the age of two that he was the reincarnation of a World War II fighter pilot who was shot down during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945.

James Leininger began having graphic nightmares of the incident and described situations and details to his parents that no child his age could possibly have known or even understood. James and his parents were recently interviewed on ABC's "Good Morning America" which is provided below. Let's hear your opinion.
